May 20, 2020 Update on Church Gatherings

May 20, 2020

As I sit to write this message and prepare to record the phone call devotional I am reminded that “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV). I also remind myself that God does not seek us to be discouraged and that “(He) will strengthen and hear you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. I know and believe I serve a victorious God who gives each of us who believe in Jesus Christ a spirit of power to love and demonstrate self-control.
Our church family is yearning to get back to gathering in our sanctuary. However, LBC also wants to be careful and thoughtful. Our desire is to demonstrate self-control and the love of others who are vulnerable to the illness that has invaded our community. All of our actions are to demonstrate our faith and trust in God.
I just finished praying for the over 75 individuals on our prayer list. In particular I prayed today for the residents, staff, and families involved with the Manor Care facility in Jersey Shore. I pray for the healing, comfort, and peace of God to rest upon each of them. I pray for each of you to continue to stay safe and healthy during this time of activation for ministry and physical separation from each other.
After much prayer, the church boards have met the last three weeks evaluating the requests of our government, advice of health professionals, and other common sense reactions to the information we have been able to gather. The conclusion of those meetings was a unanimous recommendation and decision that the building should remain closed to in-person gatherings and rentals. For the next several weeks we will continue our church services with online Worship service, online Bible study, online Sunday School, and online group/board meetings. We will also continue to communicate with each family by phone, computer, and mail.
Keep living a life that is pleasing to the Lord! Praying for God’s strength to give you wisdom and courage. If you need anything please reach out to me or your Deacon. This situation will pass in God’s time and in a way that pleases the Lord. Keep moving forward and showing the Love of Christ in your life.
In Christ,
PC

Prayer for Mothers Day

Dear Father, we approach your throne on behalf of the mothers whom you have entrusted with the care of your most precious little ones. We thank you for creating each mom with a unique combination of gifts and talents. We thank you for the sacrifice of self each mom gives for her children. For the late nights spent rocking a colicky infant. For the hands calloused from washing, wiping, scrubbing, mixing, backing, stirring, hugging, patting, disciplining, holding, writing, erasing, painting, and pouring.

We thank you for the gift of time moms give for their kids, whether it’s stay-at-home moms, working moms, and moms who have some combination of the two. We thank you for the flexibility of moms, for their tirelessness, their perseverance, and their devotion.

We pray you give each mom strength. Help her to see in every mundane task the eternal, cosmic significance that you place on motherhood. Help her to understand that the most radical, world-changing events may be happening anonymously in her home. Help her to forgive those who undermine her significance.

We especially pray for single moms, who must lean solely on you for the fathering of their children. We thank you that you’re big arms surround children who may never know their earthly father. We also pray for mother who never had the honor of bearing children, but whose nurturing extends to the many poor and needy who crass the threshold of their lives.

We ask you to be the daily bread of tired mothers. We ask you to be their living water. We ask you to be their source of spiritual and physical strength. We pray that the same grace that flowed from Father to Son to us in salvation will flow from mothers to their children. We pray that each mother rejects perfectionism and instead embraces the goodness of the gospel. We pray the rhythms of repentance and forgiveness shape every home.

Lord, give each mother a worshipful reverence of you, the Creator and Sustainer of life. Help each mother to rest in the knowledge that they are but stewards of your children and that only your Spirit can produce change into the hearts of each boy and girl. May each mother find rest in you.

Most of all, Lord, on this day in which we honor mothers, may we love and cherish the special women who have born us, who have nurtured us, and who have prayed for our well-being. May our hearts overflow with gratitude to you, who formed and knitted each of us in a mother’s womb.

What is next at LBC?

Dear LBC Family,

If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that we would be in quarantine for months, I would have been so anxious about the impact it would have on our Church. In the past, I have gotten nervous about snow days. This would have sounded like a nightmare. Questions would have flooded my mind. Will we be able to connect with people? Will people participate with an online service? Will we continue to help our community? You have answered those questions with a resounding “yes!”

We have averaged 85 screens participating in the services on Sunday, with more than one person watching per screen in many cases. We have continued to reach out in the community by providing supplies and technical assistance to our community, food for seniors and shut-ins, and support for the Keystone Babe Ruth program that provides two meals a day to members of our communities. God has been so good to us!

With the recent announcements by President Trump and the PA Governor’s Office, we are aware that there are a lot of questions about what we do moving forward. Let’s make sure we approach this subject with unity and grace. Some may be of the opinion that things should move faster, while others may believe that things should move slower. In order to answer some of these questions in the short term, I wanted to reach out to you.

Our church family wants to continue to be careful and thoughtful. The well-being and health of our members is our utmost priority. We especially want to love our kids, seniors, and others who may be vulnerable to illness. I have been in contact with medical professionals in our community and available to me through ABCOPAD and the ABC-USA staff. At this time we will continue the precautions that we have put in place through the month of May, at a minimum. Through the month of May, we will continue to hold online services only and restrict access to the buildings on our property. I will be working together with the church Boards to develop a plan for how church services will look once we are able to meet again. Be prepared for things to look different, and we thank you in advance for your understanding. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated as things progress.

In times like these, let’s remember again, Isaiah 41:10. “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and hear you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

God is in control.

In Christ,
Pastor Chris

A Lot Can Happen in A Week!

We started last Sunday with Palm Sunday and the triumphal entry of our King to Jerusalem.  Maundy Thursday showed up and we remembered Christ new covenant and commandment to us. Good Friday reminds us that the cross was both the end of sins hold on humanity and the hope of all for a life with Christ!  Looking forward to Resurrection Sunday as we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ!  See you online or on the conference call.

KIDS CORNER – Valley Of Dry Bones

After many warnings from the Lord, the land of Israel was conquered
by the Babylonians. The Israelites were taken prisoner and removed from their homeland.
While in captivity, the people lost all hope in ever returning. The Lord gave the Prophet
Ezekiel a vision of a valley filled with dry bones. The Lord told Ezekiel to prophesy over the
dry bones, telling them that the Lord will bring life back into them. As Ezekiel spoke the
words the Lord gave him, a rattling sound filled the valley as the bones began to come
together, forming skeletons. The skeletons were then covered in flesh, but the bodies had
no life in them. The Lord told Ezekiel to prophesy over the lifeless bodies again, this time
telling them that the Lord would fill them with breath. As Ezekiel prophesied to them, they
were filled with breath. This vision was meant for the people of Israel, dried up of all hope.
Through this vision, the Lord was promising to fill them with life and hope again through
His Spirit.
