Back to School Backpack and Supplies Giveaway and Haircuts

LBC will host a Back to School Backpack and Supplies Giveaway on Sunday evening, July 30, 2017 from 6pm to 8pm.

Liberty Baptist Church of Blanchard, PA will host a Back to School Backpack and Supplies Giveaway on Sunday evening July 30, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Community students, pre-school through 12th grade, are invited to attend to receive free backpacks and school supplies to equip them for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. The Back to School – School Supply Give-Away is sponsored by the Board of Christian Education, The American Baptist Women Circle, and the church Social Committee.  The event is first-come, first-serve, while school supplies and backpacks last.  There will be enough backpacks to reach 100 students this year.

“We believe our program is just a little bit different from others in our area.  Instead of lining the children up and handing them a pre-packed backpack with supplies, we set up our church gym as a store.  The students can come in and select their own supplies.  In essence, they have an opportunity to ‘shop’ for their supplies just like other kids at their schools.  Last year one of the students remarked that they were at ‘ChurchMart,” stated Greta Davis, chair of the Social Committee.

This program began last school year with the Church serving over sixty children in the community.  This year the Church hopes to serve 100 children.  The program has also expanded to add free haircuts for children as well.  Megan Kelley of Supercuts in State College is giving her time and talents to provide children with a new look to go with their new school supplies.

“The simply need to arrive with clean, dry hair and we will take care of the rest,” said Kelley.

This year refreshments will also be provided to the children and their families by The American Baptist Women Circle from Liberty Baptist Church.

“There are two fundamental ways to change the life of a child,” stated Liberty Baptist Church Pastor, Chris Davis, “Introduce them to the good news of Jesus Christ, and give them an education.  It’s really hard for a kid to be excited about going back to school when they don’t have the tools they need and their family cannot afford to provide them. ”

The doors will open at 6:00 pm and begin with a short program.  The children and their families will be released by number corresponding with their arrival to the event so that they can begin to select their own school supplies and backpack.

“Our church family has pulled together in a phenomenal way to make sure that area children can start school on equal footing this school year with the supplies that they need.  We are excited to share Christ’s love with them and their families through this event.” Stated Tammy Weaver, Chairperson of the Board of Christian Education.

Liberty Baptist Church ~ A Place to Belong

At Liberty Baptist Church of Blanchard, we believe that being a part of the local church is not about religion, but a relationship with Jesus.   We are excited to be on the front lines of what God is doing in the Blanchard/Beech Creek area, and around the world. For over 146 years we have welcomed people to join us just as they are; just where they are. So if you are just beginning your walk toward God, or continuing your walk with God, you can find a home at LBC. Together we are working to become the people and the church we believe Jesus wants us to be. We would love for you to be our guest. Come check us out!

See you soon,

Pastor Chris

Blessed Is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord!

Triumphal Entry:  Jesus told His disciples where to obtain a colt on which He would enter Jerusalem. Mark did not refer to it, but this fulfilled Zechariah’s prophecy that He who is King of Israel will enter in just this way (Zech. 9:9). Jesus now presented Himself in Jerusalem as the promised Messiah.

As Jesus moved slowly toward the city gate, the crowds waved branches and shouted praises. They recognized Him as Messiah: “He who comes in the name of the Lord” (Mark 11:9).

When Jesus entered Jerusalem He went directly to the temple. He did not go to the Fortress Antonia or to Herod’s palace. Secular power was not the concern of the Messiah of Israel at this time.

Jesus’ choice of the temple established immediately that His first concern was religious. The focus of Jesus’ concern was the faith of Israel as a people of God, not the fate of Israel as a nation.

Jesus “looked around at everything.” After making this evaluation Jesus left. But He would return the next day.
